CO2 LightScalpel Laser Technology

Foot Center of the Rio Grande Valley is the only podiatry practice in the Valley equipped with the LightScalpel CO2 laser — delivering precision, reduced pain, and faster healing for a range of foot conditions.

Nearly Five Decades
of Dedicated Service.

Foot Center of the Rio Grande Valley was founded in 1978 by Dr. Robert Brace and Dr. Walter Neller. Dr. Tin Quach joined the practice as an associate before becoming a partner, and — following Dr. Brace’s retirement in 2015 — assumed full leadership, continuing a longstanding tradition of service to the Rio Grande Valley.

The practice maintains its foundation in evidence-based, conservative care while integrating newly acquired technologies to offer advanced diagnostic and treatment options.

Advantages Over Traditional Methods

The CO2 laser represents a significant advancement in podiatric surgical technology, offering measurable advantages across every metric that matters to patients.

Unmatched Precision

The CO2 laser beam allows Dr. Quach to target affected tissue with surgical accuracy while leaving healthy tissue untouched.

Reduced Infection Risk

The laser simultaneously cauterises and sterilises as it works, dramatically lowering the risk of post-procedure infection compared to traditional instruments.

Minimal Bleeding

The laser seals blood vessels as it cuts, resulting in a virtually bloodless procedure with clearer visibility for the surgeon.

Faster Recovery

Patients consistently report less post-operative pain, reduced swelling, and quicker return to normal activities compared to conventional methods.

Lower Recurrence

For ingrown toenails and warts, CO2 laser treatment achieves significantly lower recurrence rates than chemical or electrocautery alternatives.

No Systemic Side Effects

Unlike oral medications for nail fungus, laser treatment has zero systemic side effects — no liver monitoring required.

Conditions We Treat with CO2 Laser

Each procedure leverages the precision, sterilisation, and healing advantages of our LightScalpel CO2 laser technology.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our CO2 laser treatments.

Is CO2 laser treatment painful?

For most procedures, local anaesthesia is applied before treatment, so you may still feel pressure but minimal pain during the procedure. Patients typically report significantly less post-procedure discomfort compared to traditional methods.

How is the CO2 laser different from other lasers?

The CO2 laser operates at a wavelength (10,600nm) that is highly absorbed by water in tissue, making it exceptionally precise for cutting and ablating. Unlike diode lasers used for nail fungus warming, our CO2 laser can precisely remove tissue — making it effective for warts, ingrown nails, and wound debridement as well.

Is CO2 laser treatment safe?

Yes. CO2 laser surgery has been used safely in medicine for decades. It has no systemic side effects, does not interact with medications, and requires no liver monitoring — unlike oral antifungal drugs.

Why is Foot Center the only practice with this technology in the Valley?

The LightScalpel CO2 laser represents a significant investment in both equipment and training. Dr. Quach is committed to offering the most advanced treatment options available, and has completed specialised training in CO2 laser applications for podiatric surgery.

Does my insurance cover CO2 laser procedures?

Some insurance plans cover CO2 laser procedures when they are medically necessary. Our front office team will verify your benefits and discuss any out-of-pocket costs before your procedure.
